Graffitis in Sesto San Giovanni (Milan)

Sesto San Giovanni (in English it sounds like Sixth Saint John!) it’s not just a city near Milan but the place that left inside me a deep scratch: the passion for Street Art and Graffiti. Sesto San Giovanni is the city of Lord Bean and the CRZ Crew and its walls have been painted many times by Seil2 and Imen too. Sesto is the place in which Noes and many others young graffiti artists are growing and painting every single inch of its surface.

This city is unique because a huge percent of its surface is covered by abandoned factories, memories of a past era, and this is the reason why it’s such a great place for graffiti: can you imagine 10 (or more) kilometres of empty walls?!?! it’s a graffiti paradise! After been painted illegally for many and many years the Council made graffiti legal on some walls and this was a revolution: from tags and bombings to massive paintings and really graffiti art.

So last summer, after being abroad for more than one year, I took some time to go around Sesto to discover some fresh stuff and the effect was like a fire ball in my stomach: I found a place completely coloured and painted in which the the artists’ skills level is getting higher and higher. wow! After a short tour I’ve decided that it was time to go back home, take my camera out and do a proper reportage and here you can have a look at it!

Walking for kilometres through that coloured world left again an indelible mark inside me and definitively made me believe that graffiti and urban art are a fundamental part of a city, like shops, squares and monuments.

I don’t know the future of Graffitis in Sesto San Giovanni but I can say for sure I will be part of its urban art, because Sesto it’s not just a city near Milan, it’s my city.
